Member Spotlight: Waxwing Farm
Have you met Anna Racer and Pete Skold of Waxwing Farm? They’re our CVG Member Spotlight of the week!
Anna and Pete come to farming with a wide variety of experiences. Anna’s background is in Italian, customer service, and education while Pete’s is in carpentry and chemistry. Anna and Pete have a shared passion for farming that allows them to live out their values while working outdoors (something they fell in love with while working at YMCA Camp Widjiwagan).
Waxwing Farm is a diversified 40-acre farm located in Webster, MN. The heart of Waxwing’s operation is vegetables, but they believe that diversity is central to health. To that end, they raise pigs, chickens, flowers and honeybees as well. Anna and Pete also leave wild areas on their farm as habitat for native plants, pollinators and other wildlife. At Waxwing Farm, they grow chemical free produce in the most sustainable way they can. There are no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers and no GMO crops on the farm. Instead they utilize diversity, rotations of crops and livestock, regular compost applications and cover cropping to maintain the health of their soils.
You can find their farm products through Waxwing’s CSA, local restaurants and select wholesale accounts. For CSA shares, they offer the convenience of home delivery as well as drop site and on-farm pickup. They are always striving to improve their farm practices and invite you to join them on that journey. As they wrap up their tenth growing season, we are grateful they are a part of our Cannon Valley Grown community!
